Quotes Collection 1.5

Quotes Collection plugin for WordPress updated to version 1.5.

Here’s the list of changes:

Shortcodes revamp: A new shortcode [quotcoll] is introduced in this version to replace the old [quote]. The new shortcode uses the WordPress shortcode API, new attributes added. People using the old [quote] shortcode need not panic. Backwards compatibility is ensured.

Ajax changes: Ajax calls are now made to wp-admin/admin-ajax.php instead of directly calling the quotes-collection-ajax.php file. This ensures security, also potentially fixing problems some websites had with the older system. Otherwise not much change will be noted externally.

Admin area changes: The quotes management page can now be located as ‘Quotes’ menu directly under ‘Posts’, ‘Pages’, ‘Comments’, etc., in the WP admin area instead of the ‘Quotes Collection’ somewhere at the bottom of the navigation bar. Pagination introduced for the list of quotes in admin page. If there are more than 20 quotes in all, pagination will automatically appear. The version also comes with other minor improvements in the admin page.

Fixes: Fixes for deprecated functions and undefined variables. Various other minor fixes and improvements.

Localization: The .po template file quotes-collection.pot is updated. New strings added, few strings have become obsolete. Bahasa Indonesia (id_ID) localization added (thanks to Kelayang for the translation). Tamil localization updated. If you are a translator, I request you to update your language. If your language is not found, you can add a fresh translation. (Update: The pulgin is updated to version 1.5.1 on 2011-07-01 with updates to the Bahasa Indonesia translation).

The users play as much a part as I play in the development of the plugin. Most of the changes in this version are based on user feedback. One must also acknowledge the translators for their work on localization. This way, the development of the plugin is a truly collaborative effort and is fully justified as a Free and Open Source Software. But still… still, I put in a lot of time and effort in development and bringing all this together, so if you use this pulgin and like it, please make a donation, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Flexi Pages Widget v1.6.4

Flexi Pages Widget plugin for WordPress updated to version 1.6.4. This update comes after 14 months since the previous update, and this too is a minor update, with translations added in the following languages.

  • Czech (cs_CZ) by Tomáš Hubka
  • Norwegian Bokmål (nb_NO) by Tore Johnny Bråtveit
  • Polish (pl_PL) by Mariusz Jackiewicz

And a minor change to one line of code (a minor change to load_plugin_textdomain() function call to fix a depreciated parameter) that will be inconsequential as far as functionality is concerned. No other changes. Only users who use any of the above languages need upgrade. Others need not.

People have been reporting of ‘problems’ like ‘subpages not displayed’, etc…. Well, I have tested the plugin thoroughly in WP 3.2-beta2, that’s the latest version of WP as you can get today, with different variations of pages and sub-pages and different variations of hierarchy, and different options, and the plugin just seems to work the way it’s supposed to work. I think most of the people who report problems have not understood how the plugin works and have not read the FAQ.

Different people want to display the list of their pages/subpages in different ways, and it’s just impractical to provide various different options to meet all those demands. Moreover, majority of the people who use the plugin use it the way it works, and if I change any of that functionality, they will all protest. So there is no question of modifying the functionalities or adding more options unless a particular option is in great demand and if it’s feasible. And I don’t have any intentions of adding new functionalities or new options to this plugin in the near future simply because I have to focus on my other projects. If you need any custom functionality or custom variation for this plugin and willing to pay for it, contact me.

Of course, the plugin is open source and anybody can go into the code and change it to work the way they want, and I totally appreciate that.
