Jnanagni: The Fire of Wisdom

yathaidhāḿsi samiddho agnir bhasma-sāt kurute arjuna
jñānāgniḥ sarva-karmāṇi bhasma-sāt kurute tathā

As the blazing fire reduces wood into ashes, O Arjuna, so does the fire of wisdom reduce all karmic bondage to ashes.

~ Bhagavad Gita 4.37

I have started a new weblog at http://jnanagni.blogspot.com/ where I will be collecting quotes, sayings, flashes of wisdom and such. When I started it 20 days ago, my intention was to have a web log for my personal collection of quotes and similar ‘wisdom’ stuff from external sources as and when I come across them, but the way things are shaping up, looks like it will be a ‘daily dose of inspiration’ kind of a thing, so check it and check it regularly.

The word ‘jnanagni’ stuck to my mind ever since I first read that Bhagavad Gita stanza 4.37 above. Jna, in Sanskrit means to know (note the similarity in terms). Jnana is generally translated as knowledge. But people these days generally use the word knowledge to denote accumulation of data. Accumulated data doesn’t liberate you, but it’s the spontaneous wisdom that dispels the darkness of ignorance in a flash. Whatever it is, I have named my blog Jñānāgni: The Fire of Wisdom, ‘wisdom’ is also a word I find very attractive.

Note that the fire of wisdom will contain only external sources of inspiration (yes, there is only One ultimate Source of inspiration, but you know what I mean when I say ‘external’ source). srinig.com will continue to be my personal blog where I will continue to show off my ignorance and share other good stuff as and when I come across them. :)
